2023 will be the eighteenth anniversary of this event and it still remains the most exciting event in the Nation for Club based competitors and has been described by many as the Bathurst 1000 for grass roots motorsport.

The event came to fruition in 2006 after the demise of the 6 Hour Relay "race" which had been conducted at Winton in Victoria for many years.

Victorian State Council members heard about an event being conducted in another state for competitors who only required a speed licence to compete and after many meetings with CAMS, permission was given for the event to be permitted at Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit. The initial financial backing for the event came from three of the larger car clubs in Victoria.

The event is a team’s relay event which is not a race but where a team of drivers individually nominate a time and gain points for achieving their time and losing points for missing the time. The team points are then calculated to determine the winner.

After a slow start the first year with 27 teams the event grew to a 50 team field the next year and has been at this level and oversubscribed ever since.
